Steam cleaners offer a great way to get deep into carpets, furniture, floors and other surfaces to make them look like new. It is a chemical-free, non-toxic method that can help kill bacteria, destroy bacteria and decompose that is stuck.

While it may provide some great benefits, it does raise the question of where does dirt go when you steam clean? In short, it goes nowhere. It remains in the same place after decomposition. This means that you also need to use a mop, vacuum or wipe it with a cloth.

It is important to understand that the primary cleaning capacity of a steam cleaner comes from its heat output. So while this may have a lot of benefits, there are some important things to keep in mind.

What happens to dirt when you use a steam cleaner?

Some people think that dirt evaporates by moisture drying from the surface, while others think that it just spreads around and does not do much. Both perspectives are wrong.

When you use a steam cleaner on an area, it loosens dirt, grime and other dirt that sticks to the surface. The actual removal of dirt requires extra effort. But dirt removal affects the kind of steam cleaner you have along with its specific features and accessories.

How to remove debris after using a steam cleaner?

The surface you clean determines the method you use to remove it. One thing is for sure though, you can not rely on the steam cleaner alone. There are three ways to do this:

  1. Cloth: You can manually absorb dirt with a microfiber cloth or a lint-free towel. Some steam cleaners have a file attached to this or have a mop head.
  2. Cushion attachment: Other models of steam cleaners will have a pillow-like attachment. You can either use this to apply the steam or to clean the surface when you have finished applying heat.
  3. Vacuum: In many cases, as with furniture or carpets, you need to do a good vacuuming over the surface. This will be the best and safest way to remove the remaining, broken up waste. However, some steam cleaners also offer a vacuum function.

Are not all steam cleaners the same?

However, it is crucial to understand what type of steam cleaner you have. Although the suggestions above are for wet, there are dry cleaners. This means that there may not be a damp mess to clean up.

The low moisture quality of dry steam cleaners contains only approx. 5% water. So it dries quickly and leaves almost nothing in the way of moisture.

Counseling; Pitfalls

Alternatively, steam cleaners that use heavy moisture will require additional cleaning and drying efforts. This is especially true of things like upholstery and rugs. Moisture that can be trapped in fabric has the potential to create mold and mildew growth. This will not only damage the carpet but it can also pose a health hazard to humans and pets.

Proper drying

Therefore, it is advisable to allow natural air drying for 15 minutes after using either a dry or wet steam cleaner. If the surface is still wet after this time, absorb excess moisture with a clean, lint-free towel and / or wear a fan nearby.

Why does the steam cleaner not collect dirt?

Unless you have a wet steam cleaner with an exhaust, there will usually not be a thing in the appliance to collect dirt. Professional carpet cleaning companies often have this kind of steam cleaning machines. They tend to be very expensive and if you do not know what you are doing, they can leave a worse mess than it started.

Is it worth buying a steam cleaner with extraction?

shot person cleaning sofa

However, it may be worth the investment if you have several large dogs or many children who do not seem to control themselves. You will need to evaluate your situation, how often you intend to use the steam cleaner, and whether you can afford the extra expense.

Are there any alternatives to buying a steam cleaner that also extracts dirt?

If it is not within your budget to buy a steam cleaner, you can rent one for a nominal fee. Grocery stores, cleaning shops and home improvement centers will offer a medium cleaning steam for cleaning steam. These are very easy to use while not spending too much money on buying a similar machine.

Will a steam cleaner remove stains and disinfect surfaces?

Steam cleaners are excellent stain removers and they act like a dream to disinfect things like fungus, bacteria and germs. When used properly, they can get in the depth of the worse stains. The heat and humidity work together to break up and break down stains where most other cleaners and inserts fail.

Disinfection; Surfaces

If you want to disinfect a certain area, make sure that the steam cleaner can reaches a temperature of 212 ° F. Then keep it in place for 10 minutes for it to be effective.

While these benefits are amazing, steam cleaners are not a magic panacea for every surface. They work in many places, but it is not advisable to use them on things that do not withstand heat. E.g, Avoid using steam cleaners on things like silk, painted walls and thin plastic.

How do you guarantee a professional job with a steam cleaner?

If you want a real quality job without the risk of developing mold, it may be better to call a professional. This may be the case if all you want to clean are carpets and / or upholstery. But if you have to do this often, it can get quite expensive.

Are there any tips for DIY steam cleaning tasks?

Doing this yourself takes some time and practice. It will be a matter of knowing your machine and how it works on that surface. However, keep the following tips in mind when making a DIY steam cleaner:

  • Always absorb excess moisture from substances beginning 10 to 15 minutes after application. Wipe off dirt immediately after steam cleaning of items such as windows, floors and countertops.
  • Hold a fan on and make sure that a good air flow comes into contact with the surface. This will be especially gripping for upholstery, rugs and other textiles.
  • If you use the steam cleaner to work into the surface to remove dirt, you will need to have more available so you can replace them as needed.
  • For carpets and other fabrics, check the place you have cleaned to ensure that there is no surface moisture or moisture. Also pay attention to any funny smells.
  • If in doubt, check the surface of your rug to make sure it is dry as well. If it retains moisture, it can create a mold / mildew problem.

Final thoughts

As you can see, steam cleaners do not remove dirt when handling stains on a given surface. Dirt and dirt are still there. So extra effort must be made to ensure that all dirt lifts off the surface for good. This depends on the surface in question and what kind of steam cleaner you have.

However, there are steam cleaners that come with extractors or vacuum equipment that make cleaning much easier. But these can be quite expensive. Wet steam leaves room for error if you do not do it right. The potential for mold growth increases a lot if you do not dry things properly.

How to Stagger Vinyl Plank Flooring [Like a Pro]

How to Stagger Vinyl Plank Flooring Like a Pro

how to displace vinyl plank floors

When laying plank floors of any kind, it is important to displace the plank cracks.

There are several reasons why you should displace your planks, which we will cover in this article.

Although the actual displacement of the planks is not too difficult, it is important that you handle it properly. You want the result to look good and professional, but you also want it to last over time.

Improper displacement or not dizzying at all will make the work faster, but the floor does not last nearly as long.

In this article, we will cover why you need to shift what materials and tools are needed and take you step by step through the flooring process.

Why shift LVP?

Abundant vinyl plank floors are important for several reasons. Let’s see what these causes are.

  • Aesthetics. A properly laid and staggered floor will give you the best look. Imitation hardwood, staggered planks give you the look you want.
  • Durability. When properly installed, a staggered LVP floor is more durable, able to spread the weight distribution around and last longer for normal wear.
  • Prevents lifting. The weakest point on any plank floor is at the end joints. If a floor is not displaced, these end connections are queued and will eventually lift and disassemble.
  • Easier to remove. If a plank or two is damaged, you can more easily remove the damaged planks for replacement without lifting the entire floor.
  • Helps with waterproofing. One of the many benefits of LVP is its water resistance. A staggered floor helps minimize water absorption or pooling so you can clean up faster and easier.

Necessary materials for plank displacement

When laying plank floors (even constructed hardwood planks or even laminate planks) you need the right tools. For the ideal displacement, additional tools are needed. Let’s cover the whole list.

Vinyl planks

Of course you need your LVP. Choosing the right brand or the best LVP for your home is a crucial step. We have a few guides here for various LVP brands and the best options for your LVP needs if you have not already decided.

Floor spacers

Spacers for floor installation run along the walls to keep the minimum spacing required for a proper installation. These inexpensive rubber spacers make it easier to lay the first few rows and allow for proper expansion of the planks once the installation is complete.

Hammer and bank block

You want to make sure that all the planks are locked together on all sides. Using a hammer and pounding block will ensure that the planks slide in their grooves and lock together without causing damage to the planks themselves.

Circular saw

When shifting your floor, cut some planks to make them smaller. A circular saw or table saw will make quick, straight cuts and keep the edges flat and straight.

Measuring tape

You will need to measure many of the planks before and after cutting. This ensures that you have the right space needed for a proper displacement and that your cuts are of the required length. A measuring tape is the best method to get the right measurements.

Chalk line

Although not important, a chalk line is a cheap and fast way to find space and wall center and helps keep your first row in line for a proper installation. If you choose not to use a chalk line, use a scale or a T-square to keep everything in line.

How to shift luxury vinyl plank floors

how to displace lvp floors

Displacement simply means the process of shortening planks so that the end joints (short side) do not align on each row. It is also called masonry or masonry if this term is easier to understand. Basically, your floorboards will lie side by side in different lengths, giving you the look of a brick wall or off-centered planks.

Starts the first row

The first row is one of the most important parts of the process. If you do not get the first row laid correctly, the rest of the floor will look bad eventually. It is important to take the time to get everything set up in the first row. Laying subsequent rows gets faster as you go.

First, you will measure your floor along the longest wall. Find the center of the room and run a chalk line from the center to the wall. This is the center of the wick. Next, you will place a chalk line along the wall that measures half the width of your plank plus 1/8 inch.

For example, if your plank is 4 inches wide, you will snap a chalk line along the wall that is 2 1/8-inches from the wall. This will be the centerpiece of the planks as you lay them, allowing for distance.

Next, you will take your first board and cut 6 inches from the end. It is also optional to cut 1/8 to ¼ inches from the side of the plank that goes against the wall. This will remove the grooved edge and give you a flat surface to expand against the wall at the end.

With the first plank insert, you will place your rubber spacers on the end and along the sides where the plank will lie. Push the first plank up against the spacers. Take your other plank and do not cut the end off. If you are cutting the long edge, do it for this plank and lay it end to end with the first one.

Make sure the end connections lock together. Repeat this process until you reach the other side of the room. If you need to cut the last board to fit, do so. Just remember to place your spacers along each board and at the ends of the first and last board.

Congratulations! Your first row is complete.

Second row is shifted and installed

When you start the second row, you have an important decision to make. You will need to decide if you want to make a single slab cut or two board cuts in the rest of the flooring process. None of the options are wrong and it is up to you what you go with.

If you decide on a single cut, start the second row with the 6-inch piece you cut from the very first plank. Lay this as the start of your second row, and knock it into place against the first plank laid on the first row.

If you decide on two cuts per. Row, you will now cut 12 inches of the new plank and then put it in place. This method requires you to cut most of the first boards from now on. Most installers have the option of the first method of using the cut end from the previous row.

With both methods, once the first plank (or a piece of plank) is laid, you only need spacers at the two ends. Lay whole planks next to the first row, knock them into place using your hammer and knock block and cut the last plank to fit.

As you can see now, the end connections on the two rows are not aligned, they will be from 6 (or 12) inches from the ends of the previous row. This is your shift and the whole point of this process.

Now just keep going.

Finish laying planks

As you move along rows of planks, you will use the cut end of the last board to start a new row. If the piece becomes too small, or the last row where the last board is not to be cut, start over with a 6-inch cut, as you did on the first row.

These cuts and reuse of the cut end give you a perfect displacement and repetitive joint lines that look great and hold strong.

As you continue to lay rows, you will see the displacement pattern begin to repeat, and as you approach the last row, you will understand the importance of this process and how large it makes the floor look.

Everything is the same for all remaining rows. Use spacers at the ends and tap the lengths of each row together so that they lock in place and lie flat. When you get to the last row, you have a little more work to do.

Installation of last row

Before laying the last row, make a lot of measurements. Some find it helpful to snap another chalk line to re-establish the center.

You also have two options.

The easy way is to go back and remove all the rubber spacers now. They are easier to get out before the last row is in place.

However, this can cause uneven displacement. We recommend that you choose the “harder” route and leave the spacers until you are done. With that, you will also continue to use end spacers for the last row.

Sometimes the last row has to be cut lengthwise. You can clean this for aesthetics and remove the grooved edge facing the wall or you can leave it.

However, if you only have a 3-inch subfloor and a 4-inch board width, cut the inch off to fit the boards.

You will also find this series the most difficult to install. Most planks need to be bent, twisted and tapped flat to lock in place. However, the LVP is pretty strong, so you do not have to worry about bending and twisting too much. Just walk slowly and take your time with each plank.

Once you have the last row in place, go back and remove the spacers. You will first remove the end spacers and side spacers last. This prevents uneven displacement of your floor as you walk around it.

Once all the spacers have been removed, allow time for the floor to settle. This set time will vary from brand to brand, but all brands require at least 16 hours. We recommend that you wait at least 24 hours before using the floor.

When the set time is over, you must clean your floor, replace sills, moldings and baseboards. You can then clean, sweep and dry the floor to make it look its best and then move your furniture back in.

You must now have a clean, functional and correctly displaced vinyl floor.

Frequently asked questions

faq dizzying vinyl plank floors

In this section, we will answer a few of the common questions about dizzying vinyl flooring. If you have more questions, feel free to use the comment box below.

Sp. What happens if I do not move my LVP?

  1. If you do not move your plank floor, all the end joints will come to a standstill. When this happens, your floor has a large weak point and will lift at the end of the joints eventually. Some can get away with it for a few months, others make the elevator happen as soon as they put furniture in the room. In either case, your floor needs to be pulled up and laid properly, which adds time, effort and cost to your floor.

Sp. Which way do you lay vinyl planks?

  1. Vinyl planks are usually run along the longest wall of the room. Doing this will give you a larger look, require smaller cuts of planks during installation, and tend to last longer. But walking along the shortest wall can change the look and give you a floor that stands out. There is no “wrong” way to do it, but following the longest wall is the recommended method.

Do you need a moisture barrier for vinyl plank floors?

  1. This will depend on the type of subfloor, the quality of the plank and the type of underlay used on the planks. High quality sheets will generally have a waterproof underlay already attached, which means you do not need extra protection. Similarly, if your subfloor is anything other than concrete, you also do not need a moisture barrier. However, concrete floors can condense, which may require a 6mil moisture barrier regardless of plank and substrate type.

Shifting your vinyl flooring does much more than just give you an aesthetically pleasing pattern. It also adds durability, functionality and longevity to the floor.

A proper shift is easy to implement, takes no more time to install and can add years to your floor life. Hopefully, using this article, you are better prepared to properly install your vinyl plank flooring.

Can I Use Toilet Bowl Cleaner to Clean My Sink?

Can I Use Toilet Bowl Cleaner to Clean My Sink?

Can I Use Toilet Bowl Cleaner to Clean My Sink?As a homeowner, you have probably found yourself in situations where you have had to change the cleaning products you use, such as using hand soap for washing dishes and vice versa. Another great switch that some people make is to use toilet cleaners on bathtubs and sinks. You might argue that most bathroom and kitchen cleaners should work intermittently because they contain similar active ingredients, such as grease-cutting cleaners, bactericidal bleaches, and abrasives to remove dirt.

But is it safe to use the toilet bowl cleaner on your sink? The short answer is “no” because the toilet cleaner contains toxic properties such as bleach and hydrochloric acid, which are intended to counteract the stubborn stains and bacteria that are specifically found on toilet bowls. These ingredients will damage your wash in the long run.

The rest of this article will delve deeper into this topic and provide reasons why you should not use toilet cleaners on your sink or tub, alternatives to use when you run out of your usual products, and address other related issues.

Why you should avoid toilet cleaners on sinks

As already mentioned, toilet bowl cleaners are made with strong abrasives, bleach, and other ingredients that work perfectly for removing toilet bowl stains but are not ideal for the kitchen or bathroom sink.

To better understand why you should not use toilet cleaner on a sink, let’s look at the ingredients in most toilet bowl cleaners.

Ingredients in toilet bowl cleaners

The main ingredients used in the manufacture of toilet cleaners are bleach and hydrochloric acid. Below, we discuss these ingredients in detail to help you understand what makes them suitable for the toilet bowl and not suitable for other surfaces such as sinks and bathtubs. Toilet cleaners contain strong bleach, which works well to whiten the toilet bowl while killing the bacteria. This property attracts most homeowners to the idea of also using the detergent for the sink.

Although you will get the expected results, bleach will form a harmful compound if ingested. Therefore, for the sake of your health, avoid using toilet cleaners on sinks or other surfaces where you may be at risk of ingesting this harmful substance.

The hydrochloric acid in toilet cleaners is responsible for removing stains and the sparkling afterglow. This acid is highly corrosive and can cause burns to the skin if not handled carefully. In addition, like bleach, it should not be inhaled as it can damage the eyes and lungs.

How does the toilet cleaner ruin the kitchen sink?

Most kitchen sinks are made of stainless steel, which has been treated to have first-class rust-resistant properties. Since the material is so resistant, most homeowners assume that a toilet bowl cleaner will not harm, but we are here to relieve that myth. The hydrochloric acid formula used in toilet cleaners has a harsh effect on stainless steel. The strong abrasives leave scratches on repeated use. The marks may not be visible right away, but they will eventually ruin the sink.

In addition, the bleach, which is very clearly harmful to the human body, will also accumulate in the wash and cause contamination and eventually find its way to your skin or other sensitive things by washing up.

What about the bathtub? Can you use the toilet cleaner to clean the bathtub?

Can You Use Toilet Cleaner to Clean the Bathtub

Given the components of the toilet cleaners, it should also be obvious that they should not be used in the bathtub. If you use it, it will get the desired cleaning results: the stains and dirt will be gone. However, the final damage to your tub can be irreversible, not to mention the risk of health concerns resulting from taking a bath in a tub that could retain some of these harsh chemicals on the surfaces.

On the bathtub itself, the tough toilet bowl cleaning ingredients are capable of ruining the color and appearance of the bathtub in general. Usually, tubs are made of tile and porcelain and these will eventually become discolored. In addition, the smooth finish of your tub will also be affected by the acidic formula in the detergent and will be eaten away by the hard acids and abrasives.

What are the alternatives to cleaning toilet bowls?

It is undeniable that most of us have at one time or another used a toilet bowl cleaner on either the sink or the bathtub. And of course, the detergent gave the desired results: the surface became sparkling clean.

The good news is that it is not too late to stop this practice. Below we provide some of the alternatives you can use on your sinks and bathtubs instead of having to use toilet bowl cleaners once you have run out of your usual cleaning products.

Most homeowners like to work with commercial cleaners, but a homemade cleaner works quite similarly on sinks, bathtubs, and other surfaces.

Vinegar is one of the most effective acidic elements you will find at home. It is mild on surfaces but very effective in removing stains and odors.

All you have to do is mix a little bit of vinegar with a quart of water in a bowl or container. (A plastic bottle is also a very useful and convenient option.) You can also add a small amount of essential antimicrobial oils to kill bacteria and leave a pleasant odor.

Another option is to use a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. This combination can cause overflow and should only be used in sinks and tubs, but it is guaranteed to remove hard stains and accumulated debris on surfaces. It is also a good opportunity to clean colored teapots and coffee mugs.

Another commonly used mixture can also do the trick. All you have to do is mix 1 tablespoon liquid dishwashing detergent with half a cup of white vinegar/lime extract and a cup of clean water in the right proportions. When your mixture is ready, spread it evenly on your sink or tub and let it rest for a few minutes before rinsing it off with clean water.

Apart from these homemade solutions, you can also use a purchased detergent intended for the sink or bathtub. Usually, these are made with such mild ingredients that they will not cause scratches or discolor your surfaces, and they are far less likely to cause health-related problems.

Related questions

What can you clean with toilet cleaners apart from the toilet bowl?

Although we have ruled out the use of toilet bowl cleaners on sinks and bathtubs, you can still find other cleaning tasks where it may be reasonable to use these products.

For example, you can use it to clean your bins/cans. All you have to do is mix it with a little water to dilute it, then use a brush to clean the container. While working, wear gloves to avoid touching the solution or ingesting it in any way, as it may cause a health hazard.

Can you use bleach on a sink?

Bleach is usually very corrosive, therefore it should be used with caution. This is convenient when your highest priority is to kill bacteria. But if you need to use it on a sink, you need to dilute it properly, especially for use on the white porcelain sinks.

Dilution of the mixture reduces the abrasion resistance and the chances of discoloration. While using a diluted bleach mixture, make sure that you do not let the solution rest on the sink for too long. Also, make sure that you rinse it off thoroughly with plenty of water so that you are sure not to leave any residue.

Climate Change Destroying the Coffee Industry

Climate Change Destroying the Coffee Industry

Greyscale Photo Biking Facebook Post 1

Your daily cup of joe may be in danger and you may not even be aware of it.

Millions of people around the world are currently taking the coffee they drink for granted. We may not be able to take advantage of this forever.

The coffee industry is built on the backs of small farmers who may be at risk due to changing environmental factors that affect their production, introduce problems and dampen the future of the coffee industry.

Rising temperatures, droughts and temperature fluctuations have made good coffee incredibly difficult to grow efficiently and have pushed costs higher for farmers and consumers. As time goes on, climate change will increasingly affect farmers, affecting the quality and price of coffee around the world.

Currently, farmers in Latin America are the main cultivators of coffee exported around the world. There are over 14 million people in Latin America today working in the coffee industry. However, small farms are being damaged by climate change, which is causing declining investment returns. Many of these farmers give up coffee to grow other crops.

How coffee production changed over time

Coffee plants require very specific growing conditions to properly grow tasty coffee beans. Climate change has had a clear impact on coffee growers and has shrunk the growing areas and made it much harder to grow coffee.

Global temperatures continue to rise between 1.5 Celsius to 4.5 Celsius per year during the warmest months. This results in drought and then periods of extreme rainfall. This makes breeding coffee much harder, especially for smaller farms that cannot afford to maintain their farms with these extreme fluctuations.

These small farms will also lose arable land each year. Rising temperatures will reduce the area suitable for growing coffee by up to 50% by 2050.

Temperature and precipitation are some of the most important factors for good coffee crops. Arabica coffee plants are extremely sensitive to rising temperatures, especially during their flowering and fruiting phases.

For arabica plants, temperatures as high as 30 degrees Celsius can cause permanent damage to the plant, reducing growth, resulting in yellowing, loss of leaves and reduced crop.

Robusta beans, on the other hand, can withstand higher temperatures better, but suffer from lower temperatures.

The rising average and maximum temperatures and the fluctuating distribution of precipitation will affect coffee production more and more as time goes on. In addition, there are more frequent weather events in tropical areas that could wipe out the coffee industry except in the long run.

Climate change is affecting the coffee industry

These changes are already affecting the coffee industry, and in a few years, the coffee industry may no longer look the same as it does today. Many small farmers have already lost or are at risk of losing their farms due to low yields and low income.

Capture 1

This will affect all parts of the supply chain and ultimately affect consumers. There will be less high quality or gourmet coffee for sale and the things that are for sale may be of lower quality. It will also put upward pressure on coffee prices worldwide. Do you hate paying $ 5 for a latte at a coffee shop, because it can be a lot more in a few years.

There will be many losers because of these changes and it will directly affect you. There will be thousands of farmers whose livelihoods and income depend on the climate.

Climate change is affecting arabica coffee beans

Proper temperature and precipitation are essential for high quality and high yield coffee beans. Because Arabica coffee is native to the tropical highlands, where there are historically low fluctuations in temperature and precipitation, crop phenology does not take into account climate change.

coffee 2887511 1920

Higher air temperatures during flowering, which occur in drought or dry seasons, can cause coffee flowers to be interrupted and result in a lower yield. Lack of water during cultivation also has many other harmful effects on the arabica coffee plant.

As a result, while the coffee plants can withstand drought, the fruit quality of the coffee drops sharply. Due to climate change, dry seasons will be even drier and precipitation will be more sporadic. Arabica coffee will suffer and the ideal places to grow will steadily decline year after year.

Do not be surprised if arabica coffee beans continue to grow in price as climate change continues.

Climate change is affecting robust coffee beans

Robusta coffee, unlike arabica coffee, is native to lowland forests in the Congo River basin. They are still affected by climate change, but in a different way. Because they grow in a dense equatorial rainforest, they need abundant rainfall and require cooler temperatures.

immature beans 5385192 1920

High temperatures and dry air can damage the plants and reduce yield and quality. Because it is native to a rainforest, these coffee plants are very susceptible to cold. Temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius will kill a robust coffee plant.

Climate change also results in colder winters because it disrupts and distorts weather systems.

Problems with coffee production

Each growing zone is affected differently due to changes in temperatures and weather events. Over the next forty years, there will be a net loss in the total area suitable for coffee production. Here is what is happening in each growing region, and then I will go into strategies that farmers can use to try to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Problems with climate change in Guatemala and how it affects coffee

In Guatemala, there is a predicted decline in rainfall during the critical growth period for coffee beans. In July, August and September, the rain has been steadily falling.

coffee 4444234 1920

This is paired with larger amounts of hurricanes and other weather events that cause devastating losses in coffee crops.

El Nino conditions are also leaving drought in eastern Guatemala, where many coffee growers live. As stated above, the quality of arabica coffee beans will be negatively affected by lack of rainfall and drought.

Problems with climate change in Brazil and how it affects coffee

Brazil is one of the largest exporters of coffee and they have experienced climate change due to global warming. In 2050, Brazil’s average annual temperatures are expected to rise by 4 degrees Celsius in the summers and by 2 – 5 degrees Celsius in the winters.

coffee 5278346 1920

This is combined with increased rainfall of around 20% due to extreme weather events such as hurricanes.

It is predicted that Brazil will lose about 33% of the cultivation area in Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais, two major coffee-growing states in Brazil. They have researched to find any way to prevent this from happening, but there have been no practical implementations of coffee adaptation or coffee limiting strategies.

Problems with climate change in Vietnam and how it affects coffee

Vietnam is expected to increase by 1.4 – 4.2 degrees Celsius by 2090, and the amount of hot days is expected to increase by 23% to 55%. So most days in Vietnam will be above 25 degrees Celsius.

vietnam 5412741 1920

In the highlands, where coffee is normally grown, this can affect the robusta coffee normally grown there. However, Robusta coffee is more resistant to hot temperatures.

They also predict more rainfall in the wet seasons and a decrease in rainfall in the dry season. This is also due to extreme weather events from Juno to October. They predict serious consequences for water resources such as rivers and groundwater. The expected increase and demand for irrigation causes these resources to dry up and cause strain on farmers and the environment.

The future of the coffee industry

Many strategies have been put in place to help farmers adapt to the changing climate. Two of the most important mitigation strategies are to reduce the contribution of coffee production to greenhouse gas emissions and the collection of carbon in shade trees or forest areas on coffee farms.

pexels michael burrows 7125552 edited scaled

However, coffee farmers can only do so much. Everyone must do their part to stop climate change. If you want the coffee industry to survive and continue to flourish, you should do your part. And it’s not just the coffee industry, many other industries around the world are affected by climate change.

Ask yourself, what are you doing to prevent this?

Porcelain versus Ceramic Cookware Review

One of the greatest things about human progress is the evolution of not only the way we live and work, but the food we eat and the availability we now have for food all over the world. On top of this, technology has allowed us to create the most efficient and suitable machines and kitchen utensils to make our food taste, cook and look the best it possibly can. This article puts a special focus on cookware. Kitchen utensils have not only become more suitable for certain foods and easier to use and clean, but it is now available in so many colors and materials and shapes and sizes. The materials we make in can have a huge impact on our cooking and sometimes tastes, which is why today I will focus on two of the most commonly used types of cookware, and I will look at the difference between porcelain and ceramic cookware.

Ceramic cookware

Ceramic cookware is created by oven baking the clay to create pots and pans. This means they are baked in an oven, usually around temperatures of 1800F to 2400F. Ceramic pots and pans have an aluminum base, which is also then coated with a natural ceramic glaze – often known as Thermolon. Unlike other non-stick coatings, Thermolon is a sand-based product and is the first of its kind that does not contain plastic and is lead-free. This base and glaze are ideal for daily cooking as they are resistant to both breakage and adhesion, but can also withstand heat and can be used to cook at reasonably high temperatures.

Benefits of ceramic cookware

Safer to use

Ceramic kitchen utensils do not contain lead and are therefore one of the safest options for daily cooking. Thermolon is also non-reactive to acidic ingredients, whereas the metal used in other kitchen utensils may eventually be affected by this.

An attractive appearance

The smooth and shiny finish on ceramic cookware makes it extremely easy on the eye. In addition, manufacturers often create their ceramic cookware in many colors and designs, and often ceramic pots can become an element of the kitchen.

Non-Stick coating

As mentioned, the finish glaze leaves on ceramic pots and pans the product with a non-stick coating. This means that you do not have to use oil when cooking with them, which leaves your meals healthier, but also means that you can strong flavors or acidic ingredients without leaving traces in your future cooking. The ceramic glaze also has no effect on the taste of your food, while other non-stick products can leave your food with a plastic or metallic taste, especially during the first few uses.

Easy maintenance

The natural non-stick finish on ceramic cookware means you do not have to worry about maintaining the non-stick surface. It also makes the cleaning of kitchen utensils really easy too.

Useful for storage

Ceramic kitchen utensils are not only good for cooking, but can also be used to store leftover food. It will not be stained by any sauces and can be stored inside the refrigerator. Most ceramic cookware comes with a lid for just this purpose.

Since ceramic jars are coated with a natural ceramic glaze, they are usually not that expensive to make and therefore more affordable to buy. Like everything else, the better quality versions will be more expensive but still have a lower price than other types of cookware.

Disadvantages of ceramic cookware

Shorter service life

While the lack of maintenance can be a positive aspect, it also means that the natural, non-stick surface cannot be replaced or maintained, and so when worn down, it makes the pot quite useless. This can happen faster if you use the pan more often and if you buy cheaper cookware. To avoid this, it is better to stick to the more commonly known brands.

Scratches easily

The natural non-stick is great, but Thermolon is more prone to scratching. To avoid this, try not to use metal utensils for your ceramic pots and pans, while not using hard metal scrubs for cleaning.

More suitable for lower temperatures

Despite the fact that they can cook at high temperatures, ceramic pots cannot be used in temperatures that other types of kitchen utensils can handle. In addition to hard tools, high temperatures can also damage the non-stick coating, and your pots and pans will slowly become more sticky.

Porcelain cookware

Porcelain vs. Ceramic Cookware Review_Alices Kitchen

Similarly, porcelain cookware is an ultra-smooth, non-stick, but also scratch-resistant type of cookware. It is a kind of ceramic, but the clay used is much finer and more compact, and it is then baked at a higher temperature – usually anything above 2372F. This means that porcelain pots are also more durable at higher temperatures and can be used in a microwave oven, unlike ceramic. Porcelain pans are coated with a smooth and robust glass layer and then melted together with a stronger metal, such as stainless steel, cast iron or aluminum. Like ceramic kitchen utensils, porcelain is available in various shapes and sizes and colors.

Benefits of porcelain pots

Safer to use

Like ceramics, porcelain cookware is also non-reactive to acidic foods and emits no toxicity when used, making it a safe option for home cooking. It also contains no flavors or traces of previously prepared foods, which is a great advantage for both ceramic and porcelain pots.

Easy maintenance

Again, like ceramics, the porcelain coating is very easy to wash and clean, and even if you forget to soak up the sticky meals and sauces that dry to the pan, they should still dry off quite easily when it comes to porcelain.

As mentioned, porcelain pots are one of the only types that can also be used in the microwave. The porcelain coating makes it durable for high temperatures, but can also be used to store colder foods without absorbing juice or flavor and without coloring.

Porcelain has a slightly more stable body than ceramic due to the glass coating. Despite its robustness, it is also slightly lighter due to the more compact clay used to make porcelain pots. The durability of porcelain means that it is the kind of kitchenware that would be passed on to your children, and often people have porcelain pots that have stayed in the family.

Scratch resistant

The porcelain coating is much more protective than the natural ceramic coating, which means that it is less prone to scratching and therefore may be more durable if you use metal utensils or cook with children who may not understand the delicacy that is to come. with food while stirring.

Disadvantages of porcelain cookware

Although the glass coating acts as an advantage in porcelain products, it can also mean that porcelain pots, when handled incorrectly, can be prone to breakage or cracking, just like any glassware. Because of the glass, porcelain cookware requires more attention than other types of cookware. When used at high temperatures, it can break, so you need to be sure what temperatures your pot can be used in. Similarly, you should never put it in cold water when it is hot, as this can get the coating to crack.

Porcelain-coated cookware tends to be more expensive than other untreated metal pots, simply because it has the porcelain coating and is therefore more expensive to produce. As a result, people often choose cheaper kitchen utensils, but it does not have the same lasting effects, and the process of replacing uncoated items can over time offset the extra cost of a porcelain pot.

Ceramics vs. Porcelain Cookware: A Comparison

Porcelain vs. Ceramic Cookware Review_Alices Kitchen

Although they are very similar and both are primarily a clay product, there are many differences when comparing porcelain vs ceramic pans.

Product structure

Porcelain refers to the porcelain coating on the metallic part of the kitchen utensil, while ceramics uses a natural ceramic coating. Both are baked in an oven and combined with a form of metal, however, porcelain kitchenware h as a glass coating to make it more robust but easier to crack and chip.

Cooking results

Although both cannot be used at extremely high temperatures, porcelain pots are more versatile as they can be used in microwaves. Although both are safe to use with acidic products, can easily handle an oven, and both do not hold up to taste, porcelain pots are often better designed to be used on a hob as well, as it can control heat transfer better.

In terms of maintenance, both are very easy to clean and care for. They are both durable and if cared for properly, they can last a very long time.

When it comes to cost, pottery is the clear winner here. While the better brands of ceramic cookware can get expensive, they still do not compare to the higher prices you will find on porcelain products.

Final words

Although both are very similar, porcelain versatility takes a bit of the lead. If you are willing to use the little bit more, and sure to take extra good care of its glass coating, then you have a pot for life. If not, I would not worry too much as ceramic dishes are just as good, they are durable, they can come in just as many styles and colors, and they are a little more affordable!

Many Americans and people around the world start the day with a hot cup of coffee. The scent alone is enough to wake some people.

What is lemon coffee and why do people drink it

Well, lemon coffee is as simple as it sounds. You just mix coffee and lemon together and that’s it. So what is all the shit about?

Lemon in coffee actually has a lot of history and may even be the original iced coffee!

Lemon Coffee: Health Benefits & Weight Loss 84

There is a European coffee drink called Mazagran with coffee (usually espresso), lemon and sugar.

This drink comes from Algeria and is very popular in Portugal and is believed to be the original iced coffee. According to Wikipedia, the history of this drink dates back to the 1830s during the French invasion of Algeria.

There are many health benefits attributed to coffee and lemons.

People believe that by adding lemon to their coffee, they can receive health benefits, lose weight and be healthier.

While it is true that both coffee and lemon are known for their high amounts of antioxidants, which can help the body, there are too many health benefits attributed to this drink to just be antioxidants.

Keep reading to find out if lemon coffee can actually help you lose weight and be healthier!

Lemon coffee weight loss, health benefits and side effects

Does Lemon Coffee Help You Lose Weight?

No, drinking lemon coffee can not actually help you lose weight.

However, coffee can actually help you lose weight and you do not need to add lemon to get this benefit.

So it is not lemon coffee that helps you lose weight, but only the coffee. This is because the caffeine in the coffee increases your metabolic rate and helps you burn more calories during the day.

Coffee also has appetite suppressant effects, which can help you become calorie deficient. This combined with the increase in metabolism can make you lose weight.

This is because you will be eating fewer calories than what your body needs to function, so it will break down some of your body’s stored fats over time to create energy. If this sounds scary, do not worry, it’s a natural process and is part of losing weight!

Does lemon coffee give you better skin?

This may be true. Coffee and lemon both have several factors that can contribute to better skin.

There are no documented medical studies that prove that drinking lemon coffee will improve your skin, but individually there are things that can help with your beauty routine.

girl 865304 1920

First, lemon can improve collagen production in your skin due to its vitamin C content. Citrus fruits usually contain vitamin C and can give you many benefits.

One of the benefits of vitamin C is improved skin health. Your skin becomes more elastic and tight, something everyone should try to achieve.

Coffee can also help because of the caffeine inside the beans. Caffeine improves circulation and is often used as a scrub for this reason. Drinking coffee can improve blood flow, improve skin health and promote new skin growth.

There are also anti-aging effects that can be attributed to coffee. This study shows how coffee is a great source of polyphenols that supply antioxidants to the body. This has been shown to mediate skin photography, which is when your skin forms pigmented spots and wrinkles.

With these two proofs, it would be easy to assume that by drinking lemon and coffee together you should get the benefits of both of these beverages.

Does Lemon Coffee Help With Migraines?

Have you ever heard of proverbs:

“Coffee makes the headache go away”.

Well, there may be some science behind this saying!

Coffee combined with lemon has a mild analgesic effect that can help relieve headaches and even migraines.

From a scientific point of view, caffeine and citric juice, especially citric acid, are a winning combination.

The caffeine in coffee causes a vasoconstrictive effect that tightens blood vessels, and this can reverse the dilation of blood vessels, which is usually the cause of migraines. Citric acid turns caffeine into a salt that is easily absorbed from the gut and into the bloodstream.

This combination can relieve headaches and can even help with migraines.

Side effects of drinking lemon coffee

While there are no real side effects to drinking lemon coffee, there are a few things to keep in mind when consuming this drink.

Lemon juice and coffee are both really sour drinks, so if you continue to drink lemon coffee, you may suffer from acidity.

teeth 887338 1920 edited

A side effect of acidic beverages is generally tooth damage. Many acidic beverages can damage the teeth over time. Keep an eye on these things:

Enamel Erosion

Enamel is the hard outer layer of your teeth and does not grow back. Acid can slowly remove tooth enamel and can make your teeth look discolored or even have dimples.

Dentin exposure

When the enamel on your teeth erodes, there is the dentin that is exposed. This makes your teeth look yellow and can be unattractive.

Sensitive teeth

When your dentin is exposed, your teeth become more sensitive to heat, cold and even candy. This is extremely unpleasant, so be sure to stop drinking acidic beverages as often if you see the past side effects.

How to make lemon coffee?

What you need to make lemon coffee

  • Ice

How to make lemon coffee at home

pexels valeria boltneva 7474155
  1. Fill a glass with ice, larger pieces of ice are preferred because they will melt more slowly and make your drink less diluted. The best ice cream to use would be a large piece of ice cream made in a special ice tray.
  2. Brew a cup of black coffee in your preferred method. I love using espresso coffee on the stove with this recipe because it is simple, quick and perfect for making lemon coffee.
  3. Pour the hot coffee over the ice and let it cool
  4. Prepare your lemon juice by juicing 1 whole lemon
  5. Mix your lemon juice and sweeteners to taste
  6. Garnish the cup with a slice of lemon or a little lemon zest (optional)

That’s all you need to know about this amazing drink. The only thing left to do now is to make this tasty drink at home.

I enjoy this drink in the morning with a lightly roasted coffee because the lemon cuts the bitterness in the coffee and lets the light flavors come through. It also makes the coffee lighter, which is a good fit in the morning when you want something fresh to pick you up.

Why Single Origin Coffee Beans are Expensive

Why Single Origin Coffee Beans are Expensive

Why Single Origin Coffee Beans are Expensive 118

If you’ve ever bought coffee from a trendy cafe, you may have seen the words coffee with a single-origin on the menu. These words are not just buzz words for coffee snobs like myself.

Beans of single-origin are coffee beans that come from a single producer, crop, or region and are usually of higher quality because there is responsibility for who grew the beans.

On the other hand, beans that do not have a single origin are usually mixtures. Mixed coffee contains several different types of beans that can be grown on different farms from different places around the world.

Most of the coffee produced and delivered to consumers year-round is mixed beans. Many beans of a single origin are not available all year round because the coffee beans are only available in certain seasons all year round.

Beans for brands like Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, and many other chain cafes need mixed coffee to deliver a consistent product year-round. If they were trying to use coffee with a single origin, they would have to change beans and how they deliver their locations each season, which would not be possible.

Why coffee of single origin CAN taste better than blended coffee

I will start by saying that blended coffee is no better than coffee of a single origin, and coffee of a single origin is not necessarily better than blended coffee.

pexels michael burrows 7125529
Why Single Origin Coffee Beans are Expensive 119

Like wines with blends and varieties, there is no clear winner. In some mixtures, there may be a taste that may raise the mixture to greater than the sum of the two different beans. Some of the world’s largest coffee has a touch of a different variety.

Due to the nature of coffee of single-origin and how it can be traced to a single place and a single farm, you can get different flavors from the particular variety of coffee. So if you find a taste you really enjoy and you can locate the region that makes coffee that suits your favorite varieties, you can consistently find the unique coffee you love by buying beans with a single origin from this place.

The taste of each coffee bean can be affected by many things based on region and can therefore be roasted in different ways to highlight the particular flavors that the region is known for. Things like the botanical variety of the bean, the soil, the climate, the altitude, and the natural fauna that grows around the coffee plant can affect the taste of the end product and beans that you eventually brew.

This is why we prefer lighter roasts when tasting coffee beans of a single origin. The lighter roasts can highlight the flavors associated with the bean and less of the dark chocolate flavors that come out when roasting a coffee darker.

When coffee of a single origin is better than blended coffee

The advantage of coffee of a single origin is that it comes from a single batch. So why is that an advantage you might be asking?

Mixtures will rarely use high-quality expensive beans in a mix because the taste is masked by the other beans in the mix. Also, because blends are usually marketed and sold at the $ 10- $ 12 price level, it will be difficult to justify selling a blend of high-quality beans.

pexels michael burrows 7125421
Why Single Origin Coffee Beans are Expensive 120

As a result, blends usually stay away from the exotic CoE-winning beans. The best way to experience these coffee beans is to buy single-origin and spend a little more money up to $ 25 for something special or even up to $ 50+ for an award-winning party.

Another reason to try single origin is that blends usually try to target a single flavor profile that they can consistently achieve. This is because consumers expect a special taste when buying coffee from a retailer, and this taste is usually a dark and roasted tasting cup of coffee.

Cafes and coffee shops are forced to create this flavor to keep customers happy, so they buy the same beans over and over again and never give small farms with other beans of a single origin a try. The only way to get a unique and new experience and taste of how coffee should taste are to buy beans with a single origin.

However, this also means that there is less demand for these single-origin beans because retailers, roasteries, cafes, and coffee shops only buy beans for mix in bulk, and single-origin beans are more of a risk to them. What if their customers do not like the taste? This makes single-origin beans more expensive because they cannot be mixed and there are no economies of scale.

Is there the best coffee bean with a single origin

This is the best part of coffee, there are no “best” coffee beans. This is exactly what you prefer, and when you find a farm or region that produces coffee that you consistently like, then this region is the best coffee bean with a single origin for you!

pexels michael burrows 7125543
Why Single Origin Coffee Beans are Expensive 121

However, this only applies if you enjoy the taste of your coffee and not if you enjoy adding tons of milk and sugar to your brew. If you do this, you may prefer a consistent mixture that is tender.

I think the best coffee with a single origin should be enjoyed black. The most famous places for coffee of single origin are:

  • Ethiopia
  • Tanzania
  • Hawaii
  • Nicaragua
  • Sumatra
  • Kenya
  • Guatemala
  • Peru

You can not go wrong with any of these regions when looking for tasty coffee beans with a single origin.

When looking for coffee beans with a single origin, you can look for the exact farms they come from. Sometimes these farms themselves cannot supply enough coffee beans to export so you can also find cooperatives.

pexels michael burrows 7125547
Why Single Origin Coffee Beans are Expensive 122

These beans are available in micro and nano batches that you can choose which batch of coffee beans you buy and you can find some of the best coffee this way.

Due to the nature of the coffee beans and when they are available, these beans will not be for sale all the time and it will be best to buy beans with a single origin during the coffee season in early summer to autumn.

Here’s how to find out if your coffee is of single-origin

If you buy your coffee beans and you can see exactly the name and area of the farm that your coffee comes from, it is most likely coffee with a single origin. But if the beans just say medium fried and give no indication of where the coffee is from, it’s probably a mixture.

pexels michael burrows 7125537
Why Single Origin Coffee Beans are Expensive 123

Beans of a single origin also usually proudly show the fact that they are beans of a single origin.

Remember this tip the next time you go shopping for a bag of coffee.

Beans of single-origin may be more expensive than their mixed counterparts, but they provide a different experience.

With beans of single-origin you will be able to taste and compare all the unique flavors and qualities of coffee grown all over the world.

If you are curious about how coffee can taste unique and different, you will be interested in coffee with a single origin.

Your mind will be blown when you taste single-origin varieties that taste blueberries, strawberries, cane sugar, and more!

Why You Should Try Honey in Coffee

Why You Should Try Honey in Coffee

Greyscale Photo Biking Facebook Post

We all love a little milk and sugar in our coffee to sweeten our drinks, but have you tried honey in your coffee? If you do not have it, I am here to tell you that it is a great way to add sugar and a unique flavor to your coffee.

You may be wondering why and if you should add honey to coffee. It is actually a practice performed by people around the world and it is absolutely delicious along with having lots of health benefits. In this article I will go through all the pros and the few cons that you will encounter when adding honey to your coffee.

Here are the main reasons why you should add honey to your coffee.

Why honey is better than sugar in coffee

Currently, honey versus sugar is one of the most debated topics in the coffee industry. Most people today are more conscious about their health, and this is one of the main reasons why you might want to switch to using honey instead of processed sugar.

honey 1006972 1920

Honey is healthier than sugar

While grams for grams of honey have more calories than sugar, there are some reasons why this does not matter and you may actually have fewer calories when you use honey than when you use sugar. A teaspoon of honey has about 21 calories, but white sugar has 12 calories with a single teaspoon.

natural cosmetics 5475881 1920

However, honey is higher in fructose, which is sweeter than glucose, which is the normal sugar made from. As a result, you will naturally use less honey than sugar.

There are also lots of health benefits to eating honey. Sugar usually has no vitamins or minerals that are beneficial to the body unless you have a specialty sugar derived from fruit.

Honey, on the other hand, has traces of some minerals and vitamins that can be good for your body. Most natural honey species are rich in calcium and vitamin C.

It also contains antioxidants that are good for heart health and for certain cancers.

Some other health benefits of honey are:

  • Unpasteurized honey has pollen that can help with allergic reactions. Especially if the honey is local and uses pollen from local flowers and plants
  • Has antimicrobial properties that can help kill bacteria
  • May suppress cough and improve your sleep.

Many different types of honey that you can add to coffee

There are many types of honey that can potentially give you lots of variety in your coffee. Because honey is a natural product made from bees, there are lots of different types of honey that are naturally produced based on what is available to the bee at that time.

Bees collect nectar from flowers and bring it back to the hive to regurgitate it to create honey.

Raw honey

Raw honey is honey that is extracted directly from a hive and then stored in a jar. This is the most natural form of honey and it can sometimes even contain some of the gingerbread inside the honey. People think that this type of honey is the best for health because it is “pure”.

honey 5043708 1920

Raw honey usually undergoes no heat treatment or purification, so it is full of all the natural enzymes, antioxidants, fungicides, antibacterial agents and antibiotics that bees naturally put in it. Raw manuka honey is also known for its health benefits, especially its antibiotic properties.

This manuka honey has been recognized by doctors for having medicinal effects such as killing MRSA microbes and other strains of pathogenic bacteria.

Raw honey is great in coffee because it adds lots of great health benefits to the already amazing health benefits that coffee has for you. If you are interested in the health benefits of coffee, you can read about the 18 benefits of black coffee here. Just remember that you should not give raw coffee to children under 1 year of age because of the chance it may contain Clostridium botulinum which can cause botulism.

Pasteurized honey

Pasteurized honey is the regular coffee you find in the grocery store that looks golden, clear and smooth. This is because the pasteurization process cleans up the honey and makes it look golden. It also increases the durability of your honey and kills any yeast cell in the honey at that time.

pexels roman odintsov 6422025

However, this reduces the number of antioxidants in your honey and nutrients in your honey.

One problem with pasteurized honey is that it can be added to cory syrup because it is cheaper and easier to make. All honey is created the same, but once it has been touched by humans, other things can be added to honey.

This kind of honey is best for someone who may not use honey very often but sometimes would like to put something sweet in their coffee. Pasteurized honey can last for an extremely long time and will have no problem being stored on a shelf.

Acacia honey, Alfalfa honey, Clover honey and Fireweed honey (Light Honey)

Light honey like acacia is usually more flowery and more palatable than other types of honey. They are more neutral than dark honey, which has a stronger taste and can be added to several things.

pexels polina kovaleva 5430782 edited scaled

Acacia and clover honey are a good combination with coffee because of the floral scents and sweetness. One thing you should try is to add this to cardamom coffee. You can read an article on why you should add cardamom to coffee by clicking here, but in short, floral flavors and aromas from the cardamom coffee pair extremely well with the light honey flavor.

These lighter kinds of honey are usually much sweeter than other honey and will be the best choice if you want a direct replacement of sugar and other sweeteners.

Personally, I am a fan of adding acacia honey to my coffee with cardamom with a touch of cinnamon. It has a great floral flavor and the hint of cinnamon makes in my opinion a perfect drink.

Buckwheat honey, Chestnut honey, Manuka honey and Avocado honey (Dark Honey)

Dark honey has a higher concentration of antioxidants and is usually darker than other types of honey. This is due to the amount of water that is in the honey.

honey 166400 1920

These dark honey contain less water and more nectar. This makes them taste more intense and have stronger flavors. They are also darker due to the different flower nectars that can produce lighter and darker honey through the seasons.

One thing to note is that buckwheat honey is not as sweet as normal honey and can actually be a good pair with coffee. There is a malty taste that is rich and flavorful.

How to make amazing honey coffee

So now that you know why honey is so great and what pairings to try with coffee, you can get started adding honey to your coffee.

Manuka honey is magic.

Shawn Mendes

Required Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of coffee

To make honey coffee start by usually brewing 2 cups of coffee according to your preferred strength.

Then combine your 1/2 cup milk and 1/4 cup honey and stir until firmly attached.

Finally, pour the milk into your coffee and sprinkle your ground cinnamon on your coffee!

That’s it, now just enjoy it!

6 Natural Methods That Work (2021)

Homemade wallpaper remover : ultimate and natural Methods

Homemade wallpaper remover, Old wallpaper Spatula Spray
Man removes old wallpaper with homemade wallpaper remover and spatula

The following homemade wallpaper remover can help you save some money and scrape off that ugly wallpaper in no time. They are liquid wallpaper removers that loosen the old paper.

You can easily buy a commercial, chemical based wallpaper remover. But they are all expensive and toxic. In today’s article I will teach you how to make a wallpaper remover with non-toxic ingredients.

These recipes contain common ingredients like vinegar, lemon juice, dish soap and more. I also want to teach you how to remove wallpaper with a steam cleaner for walls, so let’s get started.

What is the best homemade wallpaper remover?

Some of the best homemade wallpaper removers include white vinegar, fabric softener, dish soap and dish soap. However, you can also use lemon juice and steam. The recipes below can help you remove the stubborn old wallpaper with great ease, so be sure to take notes!

A detailed guide to removing old wallpaper.

How do homemade wallpaper removers work?

Wall cleaning
Preparing the walls for a new wallpaper by removing the old one with wallpaper remover and spatula

Like commercial wallpaper removers, homemade includes a base or acid that acts as a catalyst for a chemical reaction with the water known as hydrolysis.

This chemical reaction breaks down the glue. Wallpaper glue is sensitive to both bases and acids, and therefore it responds effectively to products that contain a base or acid as an active ingredient.

The wallpaper removers enter the surface layer of the wallpaper and gain access to the back to break down and dissolve the glue. The chemical reaction occurs when either an alkaline / acidic wallpaper remover comes in contact with the glue. It is not nuclear science, but a simple process.

Water is added to the glue in the presence of a base or acid, which allows water to break some of the molecular bonds in the glue. Water is then mixed into some of the molecules that make up the glue. The glue is like a brick. It does not break because mortar holds all the bricks together.

The remover breaks down “bricks” by dissolving “mortar between the bricks”. If nothing holds all the molecules together, the wall turns into a pile of bricks (individual molecules).

Let us now learn how to remove wallpaper in 6 different natural ways.

6 Non-toxic and effective homemade wallpaper removers

Removing wallpaper is not a fun project. However, you can make things easier and less time consuming by using the right products. Here is a list of 6 non-toxic and effective wallpaper removers.

1. White vinegar

Pour of white vinegar
You can use white vinegar to remove wallpaper as well as clean your home in various ways

The first recipe contains common components you probably already have in your kitchen. White vinegar is a popular cleanser that has the power to cause wallpaper glue to dissolve quickly.

It has the chemical properties to break down the adhesive, making it perfect equipment for removing wallpaper. Just gather the next ingredients and follow the instructions below.

Use a scoring tool to make small perforations in the wall cladding. If it is already peeling, you can remove the surface layer of paper.

Then combine equal parts water and vinegar in a bucket or spray bottle. Apply or spray the combo box on the walls and let it soak for approx. 15 minutes.

Finally, scrape the wall covering with the equipment you want. When you are done, use the same solution to go over the walls for the second time.

This will help you clean your dirty walls and remove any residue. The best part? This vinegar homemade wallpaper remover will also deodorize your home.

It is a powerful all-purpose cleaner that will also act as a natural mold killer, especially when combined with other ingredients like baking soda.

2. Rinse aid

Rinse aid
Any fabric softener will do the job and help you dissolve the wallpaper adhesive

A fabric softener can and will break down wallpaper adhesive and make it easy to remove the wallpaper. Therefore, if you do not have white vinegar on hand, use fabric softener instead.

  • Hot water
  • Rinse aid

Use a scoring tool to make small holes in the wall cladding. Combine 75% warm water and 25% rinse aid in a spray bottle.

This technique works better by focusing on tiny spots and slowly working your way across the wall. Saturate the wall covering with this mixture and let it soak for a while. Then use a spatula to remove the wall covering.

3. Rinse aid and dish soap

Detergent Sponge
Mixing ordinary dishwashing detergent with hot water and rinse aid makes a powerful wallpaper remover

If you are looking for a super easy, yet super effective wallpaper remover, look no further than this recipe. It is a powerful blend of fabric softener and dish soap that is perfect for stubborn wallpaper.

  • 3 parts hot water
  • 1 tablespoon fabric softener
  • 1 part dishwashing liquid

Add a small amount of dishwashing detergent to the water. Use this mixture to saturate smaller parts of your wallpaper and start peeling the wallpaper.

If it is stubborn, mix dishwashing liquid, rinse aid and hot water in a spray bottle. Then use your mixture to saturate the wallpaper glue for easier removal.

You can also use this mixture as a homemade carpet glue remover. Just apply it on the glue, let it sit for a while, and use a plastic scraper to remove stubborn pieces.

4. Detergent

Dishwashing liquid
Dishwashing liquid and sponges form a powerful duo for removing old wallpaper

Dishwashing liquid is very useful for removing fat from your dishes. However, did you know that it is also a very effective homemade wallpaper remover?

So if you have stubborn wallpaper or wallpaper glue, just mix a cup of warm water with a tablespoon of dish soap. Use a sponge to wipe the walls off.

Then remove the remaining wallpaper glue or stubborn pieces of wallpaper. You can also use a spatula or scraper for extra help and faster removal.

5. Lemon juice and white vinegar

Cleaning of baking powder
Lemon juice, white vinegar and baking soda can help you remove wallpaper and clean your home

The great thing about this recipe for lemon juice and white vinegar is that it is easy to clean up. So apart from the chemicals in other ingredients, such as fabric softener and the price, the cleanup was my third biggest complaint about the homemade wallpaper remover method.

Lemon juice and white vinegar, on the other hand, do not create a whole mess. And they help you clean! If you wipe off excess before it dries, you have nothing to do at all. So if you want to remove your wallpaper and clean your walls at the same time, this recipe is for you.

Before starting the process, however, assemble supplies such as a spray bottle, a scraper, a wallpaper scraper tool, a spatula, old debit cards, or a plastic tent pole (not the best tool). Make sure your room is ready for a makeover (remove all furniture and protect the floor).

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice

As you may notice, there is a wide variety of methods for removing wallpaper and solutions. What worked best for me, however, is to first take off the top layer of paper.

It is the thickest layer and comes off quite easily. What is left is a slender, paper-like residue that sticks to the walls, especially the places where the adhesive was applied.

It can be picked by itself. However, it is time consuming. When you are down on a thin layer, just apply the mixture. Start with a partial wall or a smaller section to determine how quickly you will be able to remove the paper. Saturate and let the mixture sit for a few minutes.

The mixture enters the paper and begins to dissolve the adhesive. Once your wall covering is wet and slimy, get to work and start peeling it off by hand. Or use a scraper.

Remember that this solution is acidic. Therefore, too much exposure will leave your hands raw, so it is better to use some kind of tool for the majority of the process.

If your wallpaper peels into small pieces after letting the mixture soak, you can experiment with peeling the wallpaper immediately after spraying the mixture.

6. Steam

You can either rent a wallpaper steamer or use a conventional clothes steamer when everything else does not work. Steam breaks down the wallpaper paste.

However, you will slowly move the machine so that the steam has enough time to penetrate the wallpaper one place at a time and ensure a successful removal.

Keep an eye out for bubbles in the wallpaper, because when it bubbles up, the steam definitely works. Now take a spatula or scraper and peel off the wallpaper.

Homemade vs commercial wallpaper removers

Commercial removers come as gels or solvents. They are chemically basic or acidic. The active ingredients are different but common include acetic acid, enzymes or sodium hydroxide.

As I have already said, commercial wallpaper removers work the same as homemade ones. The base or acid in the solution acts as a catalyst for hydrolysis (a chemical reaction that degrades the adhesive).

Acids supply positively charged subatomic particles known as protons, while bases accept them. The adhesive is base and acid sensitive, which explains why it reacts to alkaline or acidic wallpaper removers.

Some wallpaper removers have enzymes that catalyze the destruction of glue without being consumed in the process. This means that they speed up the chemical reaction. Enzymes are like locks, while molecules are keys. In addition, enzymes only target molecules for which they are made.
