Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop Review

by Oct 19, 2020Cleaning

While a vacuum cleaner certainly does a good job of keeping your house clean, it does not provide additional treatment to the floors. For that, you have to rely on steam cleaners like these cleaning tools is made for several purposes.

Today, steam cleaners come with a wide range of features, including disinfection options. They can clean hardwood, tile and almost any other kind of flooring. In addition, most steam mops allow you to adjust the speed settings to clean floors around the house.

Plus, modern steam cleaners also offer floor cleaning so you are sorted to keep every surface of the house immaculate.

But does a steam mop have to be accompanied by many attachments to be reliable? Can an affordable steam mop be your cleaning tool? To find out, I reviewed the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop, a handy tool for cleaning dirty floors and killing bacteria.

Unboxing and installation: It takes a few minutes

Fortunately, you do not have to do much in terms of installation, as the steam mop comes largely unprepared. All you have to do is screw the body and the handle into place. That is it. You are ready to mop.

If you have created a steam mop before, it should only take a few minutes. However, if you are unfamiliar with the various parts of a mop, you can see the instruction manual – which is quite detailed – to determine which parts fit together.

In addition, the mop has a scent counter for deodorizing the room you are cleaning. It is very simple to insert the scent disc into the mop, as you simply have to push it into the designated place.

Performance: Seems like a charm

Before I go deep into performance, let me just say that I have noticed quite a few similarities between the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop and advanced models from the company. Thus, it is a bit of a steal to get PowerFresh at a lower price with the same features.

First, the steam cleaner has a 12-inch mopping head that is large enough to cover a sufficient area at once. It can remove even the dirty stains without hiccups.

While cleaning, attach an elastic band cleaning pad to the bottom of the mop. When you have finished cleaning the room, you can simply remove the pillow from the elastic to replace it. I think it’s probably one of the simplest replacement mechanisms I’ve seen on a steam mop.

Moreover, the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop not only cleans; it also disinfects your home and makes it free of germs and germs(1). The steam cleaner has the ability to remove 99.9% bacteria from the floor and even without a harsh chemical.

The best part about PowerFresh’s performance – which is not found in some advanced models – is the adjustable steam settings. You can select low, medium or high depending on the intensity of the stain.

More importantly, the steam mop comes with swivel control. Thus, it is relatively easy to move it under the furniture or other obstacles in the house.

One reviewer said ‘this is the right deal’ because his house has never felt as clean as it did after using the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop.

Some people may feel that the mop lacks advanced features like some other models. But then again, it does the job, so why do you need extra accessories?

Versatility: Almost all floors

You can use Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop on marble, linoleum, ceramic, hardwood and granite floors. In this respect, it is almost like PowerFresh Deluxe, which is more expensive but cleans the same kind of floors.

You can also insert the scent counters to keep the floors smelling good along with looking clean. The mop head releases a mild scent while cleaning, giving a touch of freshness to your home.

Overall, the steam mop is versatile. Some users’ only problem was that it could not be used for floor cleaning, which is justified by the low price point.

If you want a mop that can do that, choose the PowerFresh Lift-Off, which is an expensive upgrade of the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop.

Durability: Exposed to scratches

At the end of the day, the PowerFresh is still a budget-friendly mop, and you can not expect it to have all the features you choose. Yes, it has excellent performance, but lacks a bit in terms of durability.

As the mop is white, it gets very dirty very quickly. After cleaning your house, you may even need to clean the mop.

But that should not be a big concern, considering that you only need to wipe the central unit with a clean cloth to make the mop spotless. Nevertheless, it is an additional task.

Secondly, the mop has a cheap plastic building that does not stay in perfect condition for a long time. If you are careful while using it, the mop may last for a few years. However, if it undergoes wear and tear, the steam cleaner will not sustain the damage by grace.

The plastic body is prone to scratching. Thus, make sure that you store the mop properly after use.

Design: Very thoughtful

Bissell seems to have done just about everything right with this steam mop. Most importantly, the design is top notch, making it suitable for most users. In terms of design, the large water tank is admittedly the best part of PowerFresh.

It is a 16 ounce tank that is inserted into the central unit. Refilling is as easy as filling a bottle, which is much simpler than some expensive models out there.

If you use the machine at low settings, you do not even have to refill the tank while cleaning the house. It has sufficient capacity to clean the entire room in a filling.

Meanwhile, the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop has a 23-foot power cord that is long enough to clean the entire room without changing outlets.

In the words of a reviewer: ‘tall people rejoice.’ While most mops are designed for individuals of average height, PowerFresh can be easily used by taller people.

Plus, the mop is ready for action in as little as 15 seconds. As soon as you put the tank back in the unit, it starts to heat up and reaches the cleaning temperature of approx. 15 to 30 seconds.

Attachments: Not too many, not too few

In terms of attachments, the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop has just enough of them to help you clean your house without any worries. Sure enough, Bissell could have added a few more, but that would only raise the price point.

Currently, PowerFresh comes with a soft microfiber pad for cleaning, a scrub pad for harder stains, two breezes fragrance discsand a single carpet swing.

While the microfiber pillows work well tile floors and wooden floors, the carpet cleaner is suitable for carpets and mats. Besides the scrub brush removes older or stubborn stains from wooden floor without scratching the surface.

Price: Value for money

The Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop is priced normally, which fits well with its cleaning ability. Although it does not have fancy accessories and technical features, it actually holds the floor clean.

Competition: Shark Steam Pocket Mop Hard Floor Cleaner

The Shark Steam Pocket Mop gives the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop some competition due to its flexible design. Like PowerFresh, this steam mop disinfects 99.9% of the bacteria in your house(2) and does not use harsh chemicals in the process.

In addition, it offers double cleaning. You can use both sides of cleaning head to clean the floors at once. That mop head is equipped with reusable cleaning pads that can be washed manually or in the washing machine.

However, Shark Steam lacks some features that the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop has. These include fragrance counters and adjustable steam levels.

Shark Steam Pocket is also more expensive than PowerFresh, but lacks specifications that you can get in a more affordable steam mop.
