Brinks Home Security System Review

Brink’s equipment is on average compared to other companies such as Vivint, ADT and Frontpoint. Brinks keeps costs down by using third-party technology like Alarm.com, but outsourcing equipment makes technical support and repairs difficult if something goes wrong.

DIY installation is easy with the adhesive backing band for motion and contact sensors. They have adjustable sensitivity and send alerts to your Brinks app when they detect activity.

The Home Complete with Video package comes with a doorbell and indoor cameras that shoot in HD quality, send you alarms to the app and have a two-way voice feature. Both cameras are also monitored by Brinks professionals for added security. The doorbell camera is one of our favorite features: You can see packages being delivered and children coming home, and you can capture shady characters in action.

While most of Brink’s technology does not turn heads, we like the ASAPs group chat feature. Found in the Brinks app, ASAPs create a type of chat room for everyone on a custom list. If an alarm goes off, contact your spouse, professional surveillance and children at once to make sure everyone is well. It allows you to cancel false alarms and connect to emergency workers directly from your phone.

Brinks’ basic security package, Smart Security Essential, comes with the following equipment:

  • IQ 2.0 Control Panel
  • Motion sensor
  • Two input sensors
  • Courtyard signs and stickers

Choosing a Brinks safety equipment package is straightforward

Brinks offers professional monitoring of Nest Secure users. Professional monitoring covers the entire Nest Secure system along with add-ons such as the Nest Protect smoke alarm and the Nest thermostat.

That Nest Secure the system comes with the smart hub, two touch sensors with built-in motion detection and two keyrings that can tap into the system when you arrive and leave home. Read our full review of Nest Secure to learn more.

All Brinks Alarm.com equipment is self-installed, but if you need the help of a professional, you can get help for an additional fee. Professional installation makes sense for more complex setups like an outdoor camera or video doorbell, but you can handle most of the job yourself. Like many other self-installation systems, just pull the back of your sensors and place them throughout your home.
