There is so much potential in every room, no matter how small or awkwardly shaped it is. It is true that spaces like bathrooms and kitchens in particular are quite demanding and challenging in terms of design and overall structure, but there are also always plenty of great ideas just waiting to be discovered and implemented.
We feel a lot inspired by many of the small kitchens, especially when they highlight something new and unusual that can be customized and included in many other designs and spaces. With that in mind, here are some of our favorite little kitchens and their cleverly designed interiors.
If you are struggling to find rooms that have small kitchens that you can take inspiration from, it is always a good idea to check out small houses on wheels. This is, for example, a project of Mint Small homes and has an interior measuring only 36 square meters in total. Somehow it manages to have it all, including a very practical kitchen with plenty of table space, storage, all the necessary appliances and even a small breakfast bar. There is more in here than many traditional kitchens have, and yet space is very limited. It’s about smart integration and space efficiency.
Another great source of inspiration is a project from Homemade Tiny House Company which consists of yet another beautiful house on wheels. This has a bright and airy interior thanks to large windows that open the kitchen to the view and serve as a background for the cabinet units. That way you get a nice view when you wash up or use the stove, and there is also another large window on the opposite wall. An open shelf placed above the window provides extra storage for various items such as large pots and pans, books, herbs and so on, and everything else goes inside the cupboards.
What sets the small kitchen apart from all the others is not the layout or size, but the fact that it has a large circular window. This is a house designed by Paradise Tiny Homes built on a custom 24 ′ trailer. It has high ceilings, which is essential for letting a loft bedroom integrate into the design.
This area can be reached via a set of stairs wrapped around the fridge in the kitchen and there is plenty of storage space built into them which can be accessed from the side. The kitchen also has a large double sink, a small hob and a window over the back with a nice view of the outdoors. The large circular window is out to the side where the seating area is and has a bar that runs over it in the middle.
An interior of only 22 square meters is not much by any standards and no one would really expect a large and complete kitchen to be included in it. Still, that’s exactly what this amazing house on wheels past New Frontier Tiny Homes offer.
To take full advantage of every bit of space inside the house, the designers placed the entire kitchen on top of a storage platform. The ceiling height remains very comfortable and even provides space for three shelf modules made of wooden boxes to be hung up on the back wall just above the windows. There is also space for a regular fridge, a large sink, a stylish stove with 5 burners and a small dishwasher.
Studio Willowbee Tiny Homes also came up with a really cool design for a lovely farmhouse. It has a beautiful old fashioned exterior and two different access points inside. The interior is a mix of modern and farmhouse-inspired elements, and it is both simple and bright, but also warm and inviting.
The kitchen is part of the largest open area and has furniture on two opposite walls. The white cabinet and the wooden boards go really well together, and the window gives a nice view and brings in natural light, which is always a plus, even if it means that wall-mounted shelves can not be mounted.
One of the smallest kitchens on this list is designed by Trim Studio and is part of a small vacation home near Vancouver, Canada. The whole house is only 9 square meters wide and yet it does not look or feel cluttered inside. The kitchen has white walls, which help it stay bright and open. It is all placed against a single wall with a refrigerator framing it on one side and a staircase on the other. It consists of a single cabinet unit with a deep and rich black front and a light wood panel. The built-in sink is also black, and so is the drawer pull. Extra storage comes in the form of open shelves on the wall.
That Small project is one of the smallest houses ever and measures only 8 ft (2.43 m) x 20 ft (6 m). It was designed and built by the owner himself, and the biggest advantage is that it can be easily moved to another location. Inside there is everything one needs for an adventure like a place to sleep, a desk where they can work if needed, some shelves for favorite books, a small living room and a small kitchen.
Although very small, the kitchen does not lack many features. It has a stove and a sink, a cupboard and several open shelves for storage. There is also a set of hooks for all pots and pans, a vertical pull-out module for bottles, spices and jars and more accessories on the walls such as. A magnetic knife stand.
This unique house designed by Viva Collectiv has a very cool and unusual structure in the sense that the main section has a solid foundation, while the other smaller is mobile, a small house on wheels that can be loosened and moved to a new location. It has its own small kitchen with a bar, cupboards, basic fixtures and appliances and windows that provide natural light from above. It is next to a cozy little living room, and it is filled with smart storage solutions like the hanging rack from pots and pans and the bicycle wheel system to which it is attached.
This is such a cool little house with a real artistic design. It has a curved roof that mimics the shape of the beautiful hills and mountains found in nature and it is made of lots of recycled materials that give it lots of character. Inside it is a small kitchen with a sink in a farmhouse style and plenty of storage inside the cupboards and on the shelves that hit the windows. This is another beautiful example of a small house built by its owner. It is an offline home with a small but very interesting and inspiring interior. It is made from a recycled shipping container, and it has a nice farmhouse-inspired design.
The interior has an open plan layout that favors simple colors like black and white and basic materials like wood. The kitchen has something we have not really seen in other similar rooms: an island. This is the interior of a renovated 1975 Chevy. It was transformed into a home on wheels by two college students who decided to see the positive side of having online classes during this period. They modernized this van and became a mini house on wheels that they could use to enjoy their freedom and to live life in a different and simpler way.
Although the space inside is very limited, they still managed to make room for a very basic kitchen that allowed them to quickly cook and heat some meals along the way. They went with a retro design and preserved as much of the original as possible.
The house on wheels designed by the studio Timbercraft Tiny Homes has a very rustic exterior with lots of wood that gives it a super cozy and inviting look. Inside, it’s actually brighter than expected. The white walls and all the windows and skylights help a lot to make the room feel airy.
As a whole, this is much like an ordinary home with a loft bedroom, stairs and a kitchen that has this L-shaped table that acts as a room divider. The kitchen has adequate storage inside the base cabinets and also wall mounted cabinets and it is in line with the rest of the room in terms of colors, finishes and materials used.
Another charming home on wheels was designed by the studio Small house Baluchon and has a cabin-inspired look. The red cedar exterior is complemented by a blue aluminum roof and matching door and window frames, a combo that stands out in an eclectic way.
Rooms inside are divided into several sections, one of which is a kitchen and a dining room. It has a wooden cabinet unit with a pair of wall-mounted shelves on one side and a table with a pair of chairs on the opposite side. They leave an open corridor in between.
If you are more interested in modern and minimalist designs, you may find this inspiring. It is a small home designed by the studio Little Byronwith a minimal box shape and an interior that is brighter and more spacious than expected.
The layout is very practical and functional, placing the kitchen in one of the corners. That way, it gets an L-shape with plenty of table space, built-in appliances and storage and also provides space for wall-mounted units. A short window replaces the more common backsplash behind the sink, bringing in natural light and fresh air.
As we move on to something a little different, we look at a shipping container home from Canada designed by studio Honomobo. It is a stylish two-bedroom place with a modern and stylish design inside and out. We are especially impressed with the kitchen, which looks and feels incredibly airy and open thanks to the frameless windows. It is completely white with cabinets located along the wall around the window and with a matching island that acts as a bar.
This is another ingeniously designed little house designed by the studio Little Byron. It has a compact interior and is only 2.4 m wide. To make it work, the designers went with narrow countertops to the kitchen that are still practical but take up less space and make the interior feel less cluttered and small.
The floating shelves have a similar effect and offer useful storage without looking bulky. This strategy allowed a dining table to also fit into this space, which could potentially be used as an extension of the kitchen when cooking.
