Kitchen Maintenance: Ways to clean less and enjoy more

Did you know that the heart of your home, the kitchen, can be a hotspot for dust, dirt and bacteria? This is especially true for Indian kitchens as our cooking uses more oil and produces more pungent odors that can linger on everything from the kitchen tiles to kitchen utensils. That means you spend so much time cleaning instead of cooking! We are here to give you some tried and tested tips for cleaning your kitchen efficiently and quickly. Are you ready to enjoy your time in the kitchen?

1. Start the day right

Such a simple suggestion, right? Still, many of us get lazy at the end of the day and may leave dishes in the sink or dishwasher after cooking, which means that the next time you enter the kitchen you will have to face a pile of dirty dishes. Who now wants to start cooking in a dirty kitchen? So make it a habit to clean when cooking or right after. Do not wait to finish eating. Do it immediately so you step into a clean kitchen every single time.

2. Clean your sink daily

Since you always clean the dishes in the sink, you can assume that the sink is clean. But this is not true. Food waste can get stuck in the drain and the cracks in the sink, which causes bacteria to build up. This bacterium can be transmitted to your dishes and can even cause infections for those who use the dishes. So be sure to rinse and wash the wash daily with a good antibacterial soap.

3. Perform monthly checks

You can stop seeing small problems in your kitchen when you see it daily. Burn stains on the stove, rust stains on your stainless steel pans, blunt knives with loose handles? Set an alarm for one day each month (preferably weekend), review all dishes and appliances. Solve any problem so that it does not pile up.

4. Oil your cutting boards

Cutting boards are often just rinsed down, even though we use it daily. You may not see it, but food particles can get stuck in them and cause bacteria to build up. When cleaning your wooden cutting board or other wooden utensils, remember not to soak them in water, otherwise they will bend and crack. If you use your board to cut raw meat, be extra careful and use a very weak bleach solution to avoid bacterial contamination. Once a month, oil your board to keep it dries out.

5. Keep your cleaning tool ready

When you are mentally ready to do a little cleaning in the kitchen, you will not find yourself short on the right cleaning equipment. This does not mean that you buy all the delicious kitchen cleaning products and stuff it under the sink (which can also be overwhelming), but make sure to fill the essentials so you can start cleaning when you are in the mood for it.

6. Clear the table top

Even if you are not a fan of the minimalist ideology, try to go minimal when it comes to your kitchen tables, especially if you have a small kitchen. If you have too many things on the counter, you can turn off working in the kitchen. So try to put things away that you do not need all the time, in the closet. If you do not use the toaster and waffle maker daily, try to find storage space for them so that they do not take up space on your counter. Try hanging spoons up like the picture below so you have more counter space.
